Information You Send
Names, phone numbers, and addresses entered into the search boxes are sent to the third-party provider that supplies those results. Lancaster Residents Directory does not keep a copy of those search entries on its own servers. If you contact the operator, the message and the details you choose to include are received for the limited purpose of responding.
Routine Technical Logs
The hosting service may record an IP address, browser type, page request, and timestamp in ordinary server logs. Aggregate information helps diagnose outages and understand which Lancaster reference pages are useful. Cookies or similar tools may be used for basic analytics or, when present, advertising measurement according to the provider's own settings and policy.
How Information Is Used
Information is used to operate, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the reference service, and to measure broad traffic patterns. The operator does not sell visitor lists or build a personal profile of individual readers from the public-record searches described on the pages.
External Record Portals
Pages link to Los Angeles County, Lancaster, California, library, archive, and third-party search resources. Once a visitor leaves the reference pages, the destination's privacy policy controls the information submitted there. Sponsored result boxes are supplied by a separate company, and its handling of an entry is not controlled by this policy.
Who Receives Technical Data
Hosting and support vendors may process server logs so the pages can load and remain secure. Analytics or advertising partners may receive the automatic information described above where those services are enabled. Information may also be disclosed when valid legal process requires it. No broader disclosure is intended.
Security and Retention
The service uses an encrypted connection, and logs are retained only for the operational, security, or measurement need for which they were collected. There are no user accounts, passwords, or personal profiles maintained by Lancaster Residents Directory. No security method can promise absolute protection, but limiting collection limits what could be exposed.
Visitors Under 18
The reference service is intended for adults and is not directed to children. It does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If a parent or guardian believes a minor has sent information to the operator, a contact request can identify it for deletion.
California Privacy Choices
California's Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act, appears in Civil Code sections 1798.100 and following. Depending on the person and the covered business, the law can provide rights to know, correct, delete, limit certain sensitive-information uses, and opt out of sale or sharing. Lancaster Residents Directory keeps little personal data, so a request usually concerns the contact mailbox or available server logs. Use the Contact page to ask what information is held.
Those rights do not give the operator control over a deed, court file, assessment roll, voter record, or vital certificate maintained by a public custodian. A request concerning a Los Angeles County or California record must go to the office that created or legally retains it. The California Public Records Act, Government Code sections 7920.000 and following, governs access to existing public records; it is not a deletion mechanism for lawfully retained records.
Policy Changes
Changes will be posted in the revised version of this policy. Continued use after a revision indicates acceptance of the updated wording.
